Where ideas
come to life

A hands-on innovation hub where toys, games, and systems thinking converge. From Legos to lasers, prototyping bold futures through play.
01 / What We Are
The Lab

A nexus is a
central link.
That's us.

I'm Genell Zuciya, an Innovation Strategist with nearly two decades of experience designing immersive experiences, building with emerging technology, and applying nature-inspired thinking to complex problems. Nexus Lab Space is my independent lab where those threads come together.

"Science, creativity, and community meet here to create systems-level change through hands-on prototyping."

The work is hands-on and collaborative. From Legos to lasers, we use physical materials and immersive experimentation to spark bold thinking and tangible outcomes for organizations, communities, and individuals ready to move ideas forward.

02 / How We Work
Our Approach

Nature-inspired.
Tech-enabled.
Community-driven.

We combine nature-inspired ideas, emerging technologies, and social impact strategies to design solutions that are both innovative and practical. Every challenge is a system. Every system has a pattern. Nature has already solved most of the problems we're trying to crack.

Layer 01 Biomimicry & Nature-Inspired Design

We look to 3.8 billion years of R&D. Nature has already solved most of the problems we're trying to crack.

Layer 02 Emerging Technology & Tools

Laser cutters, 3D printers, AR/VR rigs. We bring the full toolkit. Innovation needs materials, not just ideas.

Layer 03 Systems Thinking & Social Impact

We map connections, find leverage points, and design for second and third order effects.

03 / Lab Focus
Innovation Areas

What we make here
matters everywhere.

Nexus Lab Space guides organizations, communities, and individuals in turning bold ideas into purposeful action shaping sustainable and regenerative futures through hands-on prototyping.

001 Toys & Games Design +
60px MULTI SENSORY FEEDBACK LOOPS GAME BOARD / SCH-001 PLAY MECHANICS

Play is one of nature's most powerful learning mechanisms. We design toys and games that teach systems thinking, build empathy, and spark creative problem solving. From card games that map complex ecosystems to physical prototypes that simulate social dynamics, every piece is designed with intention.

002 Systems Thinking Workshops +

Every challenge is a system. We facilitate workshops that help teams see the whole picture: the feedback loops, the leverage points, and the unintended consequences hiding in plain sight. Rooted in ecological and organizational theory, these sessions turn complexity into clarity and confusion into confident action.

003 Hands-On Prototyping +

Ideas need to become things. We work with organizations and individuals to move concepts from sketch to prototype using the full lab toolkit. Laser cutters, 3D printers, electronics, Lego, and everything in between. Physical making unlocks thinking that whiteboards never can.

004 Immersive Experience Innovation +

Drawing on nearly two decades of work at Disney Imagineering, Meow Wolf, and Art Processors, I bring deep expertise in designing experiences that shift perspective and leave lasting impressions. We help organizations translate their mission into moments people remember and carry with them.

005 Community & Org Strategy +
EXTRACTIVE CONTEXT EXTRACT DEPLETION VALUES & CONTEXTUAL SHIFT conditions → reciprocity REGENERATIVE CONTEXT MUTUAL BENEFIT emergent SHARED VALUES / RECIPROCITY VALUES SHIFT / SCH-005 HUMAN SYSTEMS

Behavior doesn't change in a vacuum. It changes when the context around it shifts. Working with communities, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations, I help design the conditions that make new patterns of thinking and acting not just possible but inevitable. By mapping the ecosystem, surfacing hidden feedback loops, and prototyping small interventions, we create the conditions where human systems can reorganize themselves toward something better.

Our Mission

To be a nexus. A powerful central link where science, creativity, and community meet to create systems-level change through hands-on prototyping.

Field Work

What the work
actually looks like.

Build logs from the lab — what got made, what broke, and what the data said once we stopped assuming. Written to be useful to whoever tries it next.

2026.08.02 Four plants, four skins Four plants that all read as “fuzzy” from arm’s length and share almost nothing under a macro lens — three of them build structures out of cells, and the fourth skips cells entirely and mineralizes. The surface I was most confident identifying, I got wrong twice. Macro documentation · Comparative morphology · Structure–function analysis · Solanaceae · Aizoaceae · Poaceae 2026.07.26 Chasing supernovas: quant finance research A follow-up to the quant sandbox — 3,083 gap-ups across two unrelated industries, where only one thing predicts whether the move continues: how many people showed up. Then a hidden Markov model built specifically to break that finding reported back that there wasn’t a flaw. Hidden Markov models · Statistical power · Walk-forward validation · pandas · hmmlearn 2026.07.25 What a sparrow knows about a city A seasonal habitat model for the house sparrow in Albuquerque, built in a day from satellite imagery — where two measures of “built-up” pointed opposite directions, and the disagreement turned out to be the answer. Species distribution model · Sentinel-2 · Landsat · Random Forest · Earth Engine 2026.07.24 Markov chains, supernovas, and financial systems: a quant sandbox A quant finance sandbox — six market systems mapped by correlation and fitted Markov regimes, then narrowed onto four sectors and the violent high-volume gap-ups — supernovas — worth trading. Five separate times the instrument answered before the market did, including once when a random walk reproduced the whole result. 05 / Who Builds Here
The Founder

Eighteen years of
following passion and
connecting the dots later.
A life of systems design.

My career runs from Walt Disney Imagineering to Meow Wolf to Netflix Experiences — Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, Avatar: Flight of Passage, House of Eternal Return. Different worlds, same thread: understanding a system deeply enough to design an experience that changes the people inside it.

Along the way I earned an M.S. in Biomimicry and a U.S. patent for a scanning-laser 3D display system — a body of work built on the conviction that nature's 3.8 billion years of R&D is the best design brief ever written, and that play is how humans do their most serious thinking.

Off the clock, I document the living world the same way I design for it: closely, patiently, and with a field camera in hand.
